Painting Gallery 1: Abstract Work

These works are inspired by my continued interest in travel and exploration of the physical world as a metaphor for the more intimate and personal exploration that all people experience.

On the surface, the work may appear to be purely abstract, but further investigation reveals certain formal elements borrowed from antique, primitive, and high tech maps. Each of the paintings reflects a multi-layered working process that encourages the viewer to discover new visual elements and deeper levels of meaning…a lot like what one goes through when visiting a new place like a city or a new hike.
