Larry
lives and works in Boulder, Colorado where he has lived since
1988. He has exhibited widely in solo and group shows in Colorado,
Virginia, and North Carolina. Larry also exhibited at the Biennale
of Contemporary Art in Florence, Italy in December of 2003.
Larry
began his formal art studies at the University of Virginia where
he studied sculpture and music theory. In addition to studying
at UVA, he has studied at the Art Students League of Denver
and with a number of private instructors including Jim Valone
in Denver, Colorado; Ralph Gray in Luling, Texas; Mark Lunning
in Denver, Colorado; and L.V. Davis in Boulder, Colorado.
Although
he studied sculpture in school, Larry has focused almost exclusively
on painting and printmaking since 1995. Larry's primary art
influences include Jim Dine, Larry Rivers, Rico Lebrun, Mauricio
Lazansky, Jean Ipousteguy, and the German Expressionists from
the early 20th century.
Additional
influences on his art include his studies of aboriginal living
skills, animal tracking, and martial arts. Larry has a graduate
degree in Anthropology and has worked as a cultural anthropologist
with Indian Tribes in South Dakota, Washington, Oregon, Idaho,
and Arizona.
